Lost Names Chapter 1

The "Lost Names" book I am reading is very interesting. The narrator never actually has mentioned his name the main characters name. I think this is kind of a motif, you know..."Lost Names?" So the...boy (main character) is a baby and headed to Manchuria. His family is trying to get out of Japanese terrine. The father in the book is a protester vs the Janapese rule. He is taken and beaten by the thought police. The mother waits for many hours in the cold snow untill the father staggers to the train, house, shack, thing. Then, at the end of the chapter, off the Manchuria!

now that i think about it, i don't think that the name was or will be mentioned at all. In chapter 'lost names' it doesn't even tell his new japaese name, just his surname in japaneese.
It's kind of olvious, since the title is 'lost names' it would be something about lost names, wouldn't it?
Now, also, that i think about it, it doesn't seem terribly important the part about the main character being in Manchuria.

I agree with you, that the having no name is a motif. Because literally no one has an actual name in this book. If you notice, it calls people like the book store owner, father, mother, grandmother, uncle, korean teacher, etc. I think only one name is mentioned and it's a nickname.

The only name we are givin im the whole book is his JAPANESE surname (And one nickname). But all of the other names are physical descriptions, status markers, or just pronouns.

SO
hello caleb.
anywayy i think that this book was really interesting. I actually didnt get the whole title till like the part where they have to give up their korean names. the first chapter i think shows a great amount of courage. the mother, with the baby, carrying him across the river even though shes scared and such. I think this was such a good book. It showed great significane of your name, can mean so much than just words. It represents like who you are. anywayy....byebyeeee
